Hermes
Hermes; the messenger of the Gods. Whilst we aren't expecting this computer to facilitate communication with the Almighty, we would like to think that it offers the kind of processing power that a deity mind find suitable for, well, whatever a deity might do with a computer. The focus with this system is on serious data processing, whether it be image work or handling a large database.

The Processor:
The E8400 was one of the first from of new processors from Intel that featured the new 45nm architecture. This new technology allowed processors to run without consuming as much electricity, yet still realising the same level of processing power. This reduction in electrical usage also means that the units run noticeably cooler, allowing for either higher overclocks or a longer running life.
The Memory:
The set of DDR3-1600 ram is an incredibly quick pairing. The 4Gb matched pair set are specifically optimised for the Core architecture, effectively allowing the 2 sticks to run in parrallel. This means that whether you are running an intensive database application, or maybe doing a spot of video or image editing, your data is with you as quickly as possible so that you get a smooth experience.
The Motherboard:
One of the best motherboards available today. It offers built in Wi-Fi (Wireless n), DDR3 1600 and 45nm CPU support. It brings value and performance together. It also features Asus's Express Gate technology which allows near instant access to the internet, Skype and images. Lastly, it also has onboard 8 channel audio for those with a need for surround sound.
The Graphics Cards:
Featuring a revolutionary unified architecture, the FX 370 dynamically allocates geometry, shading, and compute processing power to deliver optimized GPU performance. The 256MB GDDR2 frame buffer makes the FX 370 Microsoft Vista ready and capable of displaying the full Windows Aero user interface. The reference standard for Shader Model 4.0, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 370 by PNY enables next generation ultra-realistic, real-time OpenGL and DirectX 10 applications. With two DVI-I connectors it is perfect for multi monitor computing.
The Operating System:
Hermes comes with an installation of Windows Vista Home Premium (64bt Edition). This space here really isn't enough to do justice to all the different facets, features and improvements in Windows Vista, but do have a look at the Microsoft Windows Vista site for more information.
The Monitor:
Because so many people already have a monitor of their own, we don't include one in the sample system as standard. However, we do ship a range of sizes from both Dell and Samsung to suit a variety of budgets and needs. Have a look at our monitors page for a full selection. The monitor to the right is the new Dell 2408WFP.
The Hard Drives:
The Samsung Spinpoint series of hard drives are some of the quickest consumer disks available. They boast very large capacities and market leading speeds. They are the best money can buy. The two 1000Gb drives are configured in a RAID away. You can choose between RAID 0 for extra speed or RAID 1 for extra data security.
The Case:
The V1010 is one of the new line of V series cases from Lian Li. We have just had our first build in the V1010B here, and we like it so much we've put it straight into this sample system. Featuring a compartmentalised interior for superior cooling, locking points and space for up to 6 hard disks as standard, this is one stunningly well engineered case. It also has a removable motherboard tray for ease of upgrading, and support struts for the graphics card(s). On top of all this function, there is also an incredible level of form. The case is genuinely nice to look at, and none of the photos do justice to seeing it in the flesh.
The Cooling:
The use of high performance, low noise fans allow the system to run fully loaded 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and still remain cool and whisper quiet. The tried and tested push-pull air configuration allows for a quick and efficient way of removing hot air from the system.
The Power Supply:
Power for the masses. This little power supply can handle pretty much everything thanks to the high wattage, and good ability to work in all but the toughest environments. This is coupled with unbelieveably quiet operation thanks to its innovative fan controller. The first time we booted a system with one of these in, it was only the fan spinning up that gave any indication that it was working it was that quiet.
