The Processor:
The E8600 is built using cutting edge designs to improve on speed, energy and thermal efficiency whilst processing information quicker than ever before. Coming in at a stock of 3.33GHz, it is currently the highest clocked processor you can buy. Couple this with the fact that it will overclock like there's no tomorrow and it forms an essential basis to any high performance system.
The Memory:
In the last year, RAM prices have fallen immensely. This means that without driving up the cost of the system, you can put in more than any game going can use. As standard, the system comes with 4Gb, split into 2 x 2Gb sticks. This can be increased to a massive total of 16Gb if your personal needs require it.
The Motherboard:
The Asus P5Q is a stunning new board that utilises the new P45 chipset. Featuring PCIe 2.0, it happily supports the latest and greatest power hungry cards, and the latest 45nm CPU architecture. This is one of the best value boards available at the moment, packing an impressive array of features into a very competitive price.
The Graphics Cards:
The brand new HD4870 is quite simply the best graphics card money can buy at the moment. Specifically aimed at 24" plus monitors, the massive 2Gb of DDR5 memory is able to cope with the vast number of textures and details required to fill a high resolution monitor without leading to a massive drop in frame rates. The Sapphire version of the card also comes with a 10 year warranty, giving you extra assurance of its quality.
The Operating System:
Zeus comes with an installation of Windows Vista Home Premium (64bt Edition). This space here really isn't enough to do justice to all the different facets, features and improvements in Windows Vista, but do have a look at the Microsoft Windows Vista site for more information.
The Monitor:
Because so many people already have a monitor of their own, we don't include one in the sample system as standard. However, we do ship a range of sizes from both Dell and Samsung to suit a variety of budgets and needs. Have a look at our monitors page for a full selection. The monitor to the right is the new Dell 2408WFP.
The Hard Drives:
The new F1 series from Samsung picks up ably the mantle from the original Spinpoint series. This 750Gb drive provides stunning read / write times across a barrage of tests, in part due to its large 32Mb Cache.
The Case:
The Lian Li P60B is a very impressive case. Featuring 4 x 120mm fans and a 140mm fan, this enclosure has no problem keeping even the hottest of systems cool. In turn, it is very well suited to housing high end gaming components like the ones we have in the Zeus.
The Cooling:
What, 4 x 120mm fans and 1 x 140mm fan not good enough for you? Very well, let's add to the mix that majestic behemoth; the Thermalright HR-01 PLUS. Coupled with Scythes equally good 1600rpm case fan, this cooler is about as good as it gets before you start on the road to water, phase change and other exotic cooling forms.
The Power Supply:
Continueing up the Corsair power supply series, we come to the 750W version. It is cool, quiet, stable and has modular cables. Everything you could possibly need in a power supply without any japery to distract from its impressive power handling.
The Sound Card:
The Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer is now well established in the marketplace as being a cracking sound card for your 5.1 needs. The pinnacle of sound quality, you'll never hear things the same way again. Explosions come to life, water splashes make you turn around, gun fire will make you jump from your seat as the X-FI produces some of the most realistic sound on the market today.
